DEV DIARY - SHORT WEEK

It’s been a short week at The Golf Club’s Clubhouse this week and the Easter Weekend meant that we weren’t in the office either Friday or Monday. “Perfect,” I thought. “This will give me a bit of spare time to play the suggested tournaments and get through the Q School on the TGC Tours.” What I forgot was that the Easter Weekend was also the weekend I had to move house. So I didn’t get to play one round! That was a huge disappointment but it gave me plenty of time to think while moving boxes. Lots of good ideas were floating around my head by the time I got to my desk on Tuesday. So not all was lost!

Normally with only 3 working days since the last Dev Diary I wouldn’t have much to report but this week Rami managed to pull something out of the hat for me! This morning he was showing me the Xbox One running at 900p at 30fps on Little Brook Manor. He played the whole of the first and second hole and the frame rate didn’t once drop below 27fps. We went through all of the other themes and Boreal performed the worst, dropping to around 24fps. He still has plenty of improvements that he can do so we’re moving in the right direction.

With this progress I have to make a decision on what to do with the Xbox One version. Do we update to 900p but risk certain user created courses being unplayable because they’re just too big, do we keep it at 720p and make all courses a lot smoother, or do we give you guys an option to change the resolution that isn’t something majority of console users would be used to compared to PC users? This is still being discussed around the team at the moment.

With the Easter Weekend we also lost a bit of time to publish the results for the HB Suggested Tournaments for Week 5, I’ll do them tomorrow with the Week 6 results. This will all be made a lot easier next week when our new community manager comes on board. Look out Monday for the big announcement.
